It's been a few weeks since we posted any updates about Rowdy. For weeks 8-12, it was pretty much the same, try to keep Rowdy as calm as we could while ramping up the exercise (on a leash) he was getting. Well, it worked and Rowdy is officially back to 100%. We had our final visit with the kind folks at Shady Oak Vet clinic in MN and he got the go-ahead to take the leash off. You can see in this short video, he's VERY happy to be playing again.

Great video!
My healthy, active, 9yo GSD is having TPLO surgery tomorrow. I hope the surgery/recovery is as successful as it was for Rowdy! Recoup will be tough with a 1 yo puppy wanting to engage in play with his buddy. Any additional tips (beyond stuffed kong) would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Gina,
The best thing we did was make sure and keep the other dog exercised, while feeding Rowdy kongs, treat toys, anything to keep his mind stimulated. When he got a little further into the recovery, taking them both outside of the house, for car-rides, etc was very helpful as well. The surgery itself sounds daunting, and 12-14 weeks seems like an eternity - but, it goes by so fast and they do start to show rapid improvement so it makes it less painful.
He really liked his physical therapy as well, stretching the leg muscles after about 2 weeks (when the swelling went down).
