Week 1 - Belly Sling For Walking Up Stairs
Rowdy has been home nearly a week and he's doing great! He's getting used to the idea of moving around the house/yard on three legs, but stairs are still a bit of a challenge. The vet suggested that we look at getting him a "belly sling." Amber's creative juices got flowing after seeing this and spent the night he was away at surgery making one out of an old king sized pillow case and some left over felt (saving us $50). Rowdy has gotten very used to using it going up and down stairs and it's made his life much easier in the interim.

We found out today that my 4 1/2 year old male boxer Oscar needs TPLO surgery in his left rear leg and later in his right as well. He goes in for his left leg surgery on next Tuesday. We will be glued to your blog for updates on Rowdy and ideas for Oscar's recovery. Thank you so much for posting your updates!
R these surgeries common for boxers? Do they commonly have a hip issues? We are wanting to adopt a boxer sometime in the next couple of years, so just wondering! Even if it is common I don't think it would prevent us from adopting one. Acutally I would really like to adopt a white deaf one, how has your experience been with that? I just have a special place in my heart for them! Wishing Rowdy a speedy recovery!
Thanks for all the info!

P.S. BTW, I found ur blog from the Pampered Pooch blog, our pup goes to doggy daycare there as well!
Hvincent - great to share our perspective with you. We're learning every day, it's a tough thing to go through but they seem to bounce back so fast.
Emily - it's actually very common in all breeds of dogs. Our experience has been nothing short of awesome with a white deaf boxer. Our 2 year old female (Roxy) is deaf and she's been an incredible addition to our home. We foster for the MN Boxer Rescue as well and have had a few other deaf fosters and they're all amazing. The running joke in our house is that our deaf boxer listens better than our hearing boxer. let us know if you'd ever like to learn more or talk more about them - we're happy to share!

Great thanks so much for sharing! I would LOVE to foster for MN boxer rescure, but I am pretty sure once they would enter our home that I would have a hard time letting them leave! So I think adoption is out chosen path! lol! But we need a yard with a fenced in backyard before we would be able to get a white deaf pup. :-( Thanks for your willingness to share your experiences! Have a wonderful day!
